About the role

Due to a period of parental leave, we are looking for an experienced Senior HR Advisor.  This fixed term will end when the incumbent return from parental leave, which is expected to be approximately October 2020.

Our organisation is going through a period of major change so we need someone who is experienced working in a high pressure environment, used to dealing with ambiguity, and can work with common sense and pragmatism.

Ideally be an HR generalist with strong experience writing position descriptions and job sizing, preferably trained in Korn Ferry/Hay methodology.  However, if you are more of an ER specialist, and able to manage and advise on performance issues, including PIPs and disciplinary matters, then we’d still like to hear from you if you’re looking to move into a more generalist role.

Please carefully consider the position description for more details, but in general we need a senior practitioner with strong experience in diagnosing employment issues and advising on pragmatic solutions who can:

  • Provide advice and support across a broad range of Workplace Relations and HR matters - including workforce planning, recruitment, induction, employment relations, remuneration, recognition and reward, leadership development and change management
  • Advise and support / coach managers in the delivery of their obligations relating to employment related legislation, Fire and Emergency NZ policy and employment agreements,
  • Work effectively with other members of the HR team to ensure that the work of HR is integrated and co-ordinated, and meets the needs of Fire and Emergency NZ managers

About you

This role is a great mix of all the different aspects that make up a generalist HR role so you’ll also need to have:

  • Strong experience in rem sizing drafting and position descriptions
  • At least five years experience working at a senior level, preferably within the public sector
  • Strong understanding of current New Zealand employment legislation and case law, and using it to advise managers
  • Experience with disciplinary matters and performance management, including leading disciplinary meetings and the implementation of performance improvement plans
  • Excellent writing skills, and able to turn complicated and legal concepts into plain English
  • Strong judgement and knowing when to adapt your advice to fit different situations

We are looking for someone with a great attitude, who can take each day as it comes and is prepared to get stuck in with what needs to be done.

The salary range for this role is $98,00 to $112,000.
