Home sprinklers

Home sprinklers will protect your family from the dangers of fire, 24 hours a day. They’ll also reduce the amount of damage to your home, in most cases containing it to just one room.

Watch the following video to see how effective home sprinklers are at controlling fire:

Installation and cost

  • You’ll need a qualified sprinkler system designer and plumber to install home sprinklers.
  • The best time to install sprinklers is when you’re building a new house or substantially renovating an existing one. However, installing sprinklers into existing homes (retro-fitting) is also becoming an increasingly affordable option.
  • You can choose from ceiling or wall-mounted sprinkler heads. These come in a wide range of styles so you can match them to your interior design. You can also opt for concealed sprinklers.
  • A standard-sized room will need one sprinkler, a large or open-plan room will need two or more.
  • Home sprinklers use ordinary domestic plumbing and can be installed in around two days.
  • Sprinkler installation for a new home costs on average about 2% of the build price.

Rural areas

  • Firefighters may take longer to reach rural locations, so home sprinklers can be a particularly useful safety device in these areas.
  • If your house is in a rural area, you may need to install a pump to increase water pressure to the sprinkler heads.

Maintenance and care

  • Maintenance is only required in the event of a fire. In this situation the affected head will need to be replaced.
  • Make sure you always have two spare heads on hand for each sprinkler head type in the house. Then if one is used or becomes damaged you can keep your family and home protected again as soon as possible.
  • Never hang anything from or tie anything to a sprinkler head.
