Emergency Mobile Alerts

We've partnered with the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management and other agencies including NZ Police, Ministry of Primary Industries and Ministry of Health to use the Emergency Mobile Alerts (EMA) to alert people if their lives, property or health are at serious risk.

Messages get sent to mobile phones that are enabled to receive these alerts. Alerts can be targeted to areas affected by serious hazards.
They are sent to every enabled phone in the targeted area. The system uses cell broadcast technology to do this, so you don't need to sign up for them.

To check if your mobile phone can receive these alerts and to get more info, visit civildefence.govt.nz

When Fire and Emergency creates an EMA, it will feature on our Alerts page.

The Emergency Mobile Alerts system operates in accordance with an agreed Support and Operational Model developed by MCDEM in consultation with the participating agencies.
