What to expect
A Home Fire Safety Visit is a free service for anyone who would like fire safety advice to reduce the risk of fires in their own home.
For people who hold a community services or super gold card we can provide smoke alarms during the visit. If you do not hold either of these cards we can help you install alarms you have purchased prior to the visit.
Please note: This service is not available to landlords. Renters may request a visit themselves if they would like fire safety advice, however it is the landlord’s obligation under the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 to install and replace smoke alarms.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand does not install interconnected alarms for code of compliance during a Home Fire Safety Visit. If you need someone to assist you in installing alarms to get code of compliance please contact a licensed electrician
The visit will take up to 30 mins. Our crew will help you with:
Escape plans
We will talk through an escape plan personalised for your home.
Risks in your home
We will help you identify the biggest fire risks in your home.
Check & install smoke alarms
We will check existing smoke alarms and install working smoke alarms as needed.
Community Services and Super Gold card holders will be supplied smoke alarms.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand recommend having photoelectric or long-life smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, hallway, and living area.
