Pigeon Valley Fire update 32 - 11:30 hours 11/02/2019

Community meetings scheduled for later today will continue as planned.

The meetings are at 5.30pm at Appleby School and 7.30pm at Hope Community Church Ranzau Road.

Settled weather this morning is assisting the response to the fires, with primary and secondary fire breaks constructed.

We are still working on a plan for re-entry into Wakefield township and will let residents know when it is safe to do so, and under what conditions.

The areas of Eves Valley, Teapot Valley, Redwood Valley and Pigeon Valley are also being assessed but are considered higher risk at the moment.

The total fire ban and the machinery ban continue.

Last night the Whakatu Marae in Nelson hosted seven evacuees. Te Awhina Marae in Motueka and Te Hora Marae in Canvastown are both on standby should people need somewhere to stay.

Free healthcare is available for those affected by the fires.

At any time:

  • Call the freephone Healthline on 0800 611 116

  • Call 111 for emergencies or go to Nelson Hospital ED for emergencies

See Information for people needing health advice or healthcare.

MPI is continuing to assess livestock that are located behind the cordons.  They have been feeding out and ensuring stock have access to water. They have attended to as many stock as practicable in the time provided.
