Learning from home resources
This section contains fire safety information and activities for parents/adults as "teachers at home".
The resources are aligned with the New Zealand school curriculum with a focus on literacy. Content is similar to the schools Get Firewise programme for Years 1 & 2, however can be used potentially for Years 0 - 3. This short programme provides a series of activities and supporting downloadable resources, and has the flexibility for home schoolers to learn in stages, at their own pace.
Below are some resources you can do while at home:
- Safe and unsafe fires, background reading for parents
- Information and safety tips for parents
- Tamati and Sam Get Firewise digital storybook. PDF available below or can be accessed via the digital storybook link as a downloadable resource. Please note this can take several minutes to download and save.

- Get Firewise Puppet cut-out template
- Create your escape plan and then draw it out
