Procurement Specialist

About us 

Fire and Emergency New Zealand was set up under new legislation in July 2017, combining 40 urban and rural fire services and 14,000 people. We became one national emergency management organisation to keep New Zealanders, their property and our unique environment safe.

Our firefighters educate communities to build their resilience by helping them prepare for, respond to and recover well from emergencies.

We respond to a wide variety of emergencies including motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, dealing with hazardous substances, severe weather events and natural disasters. We work to reduce risk to make our communities safer, through fire safety campaigns, research, and by providing advice on the Building Code.

About the role

The Procurement Specialist will support the promotion of the procurement policy, state sector procurement guidelines and accepted procurement good practice, provide procurement advice and assistance, review procurement documentation in line with the procurement policy, and assist in developing and improving Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s procurement systems and practices.

You will be responsible for:

  • Relationship management with stake holders
  • Building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with relevant Fire and Emergency NZ staff
  • Procurement practices
  • Management of supplier contracts to support organisation strategic priorities for a selected portfolio of suppliers
  • Understand and support compliance

About you

You will be an experienced Procurement professional, who is used to working within Public Sector environment.  You manage a portfolio of services, and will support the promotion of the procurement policy, state sector procurement guidelines and accepted procurement good practice, provide procurement advice and assistance, review procurement documentation in line with the procurement policy, and assist in developing and improving Fire & Emergency NZ’s procurement systems and practices.

We are looking for:

  • Strong relationship skills
  • Experience delivering procurement outcomes
  • Negotiation, persuasion and influencing skills
  • Great attention to detail

Essential

  • Is experienced at leading the delivery of the required procurement outcomes, typically for a small / medium sized government agency
  • An ability to think strategically, taking a proactive and longer-term view to issues
  • The ability and capacity to lead and manage in an interdisciplinary environment

Desirable

  • Eligible for or working towards CIPS or IACCM (World Commerce & Contracting) membership
  • Has knowledge and experience in using the Government Electronic Tendering System (GETS)
  • Experience in developing and managing panel supplier arrangements
  • The ability to undertake travel as required
