An exciting Fixed Term opportunity for an experienced project manager to play a part in an important cultural and procurement project for Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

The organisation is currently reviewing the design, manufacture and distribution of its uniform and other garments with the desired outcomes being:

  •  A unified uniform that can be worn by firefighters across the country.
  • The ability for firefighters to obtain the uniform and other garments they require in a simple and effortless way.
  • Mutually beneficial contract/s with suppliers and clear plans and measures in place to manage the ongoing commercial relationships.
  • Robust and measurable processes in place to support the project deliverables and the ongoing supply of uniform and other garments.

About the role

Fire and Emergency are looking to build a highly capable team project managers to deliver a major project change make to provide the services to our firefighters and to our communities.

This role will project manage 1 large piece of work related to procuring and supplying uniforms and garments to our firefighters.  

The projects all need to be planned and delivered over the next two years.

Our environment is large and complex – 12,000 volunteers, and 2,700 staff (a mix of operational and non-operational).  We are early in our journey to develop and deliver projects that will help us prepare for, guide and implement change to existing processes and delivery. 

You will also be in on the ground floor of establishing an organisation-wide delivery capability and will be able to influence what that looks like and how it works.

About you

You will be an experienced project manager, with a passion for not only delivering projects well but for making sure that your business colleagues come along with you so that benefits can be achieved.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and keep all of the plates spinning
  • Ability to coach and guide team members who don’t have your project experience
  • Ability to join the dots and provide your Sponsor (SRO) with a clear picture of what she needs to know and to do

It would be advantageous if you have experience relating to uniforms / garments and /  or have been involved in major procurement activities.
