Senior Database & Integration Specialist

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Senior DBA & Integration Specialist to join our busy Database & Integration Services team, at Fire and Emergency.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the firefighters who serve them, now and in the future.

This role is reporting to the Database and Integration Services Team Leader and will be contributing to a team of specialists (internal, external and vendors) that support, enhance and develop applications and databases, middleware, interfaces and data.

This role will have an opportunity to: 

  • Undertake system analysis, project scoping and estimations for problem resolution and contribution to the design of enhancements and new projects
  • Provide expert systems advice, recommendations and support to ensure the delivery of Key ICT projects
  • Provide expert systems and data advice to advance the ICT Cloud Strategy
  • Provide maintenance and enhancements for the agreed specialist areas
  • Provide administration, configuration, fault diagnostics of hardware and software including Cloud services where appropriate 
  • Development and maintenance of training materials, delivery of training, FAQ’s and other documentation designed to assist users
  • Undertake project management activities on assigned developments with vendors
  • Be the Technical Owner on assigned projects and developments
  • Doing all this while a passion to drive our new values – “Kia Tika, Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Auahatanga”.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Minimum five years’ experience in application/database development including middleware, Cloud and critical business applications
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the development and management of relational database environments including SQL Server
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the development and management of REST API’s 
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in creating critical business and technical applications using programming tools such as C#, java, .NET and XML in multiple environments (Cloud, on prem.) 
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining business application and technical documentation
  • Has in-depth demonstrable skills in system and functional analysis and problem diagnostic, capability of producing high quality specification and documentation
  • Extensive experience with SDLC and understanding of related processes and disciplines 
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and able to plan and successfully manage workload to completion and within SLAs
  • Has an ability to assist others in carrying out tasks such that they can use this skill without help in the future 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (oral and written) to all levels of the organisation. 

The starting salary for this role is $102,858 gross per annum and we offer a great range of benefits as part of this permanent role:
