About the role

The Team Leader Payroll will support the National Payroll Services Manger to ensure fit for purpose delivery and reporting for our payroll service. You be responsible for the maintenance of payroll process documentation including SOP and user guides, promoting quality assurance as well as the ongoing development of the payroll team members. As the leader for a team of Payroll Advisors, you will oversee day-to-day Payroll operations and provide subject matter expertise on legislation to ensure high quality payroll performance, customer service and continuous improvement.

About you

You bring with you over 5 years experience in a payroll environment, with an excellent ability to interpret employment agreements, policies, and payroll-related legislation. You have a customer focused approach and enjoy leading teams to deliver their best, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.


Along with the skills already mentioned above, your experience will include:

  • End-to end Payroll experience with  in depth knowledge and understanding of New Zealand employment and payroll related legislation, including but not limited to, the Holiday’s Act, the Wages Protection Act and the Privacy Act
  • Ability to accurately interpret terms and conditions in employment agreements and policies
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience training and mentoring of others
  • Experience solving complex payroll issues or queries in a timely manner
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Keen attention to detail with a systematic and analytical approach
  • Excellent customer service
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Ability to ensure confidential information is handled with absolute discretion
