Trainer - Fixed term

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Trainer to join the Region Five training team on a fixed term basis.

If you have the desire to pass on your current operational knowledge and experience to both those joining Fire Emergency New Zealand and those currently serving, then we want to hear from you.

The position reports to the Region 5 Training Coordinator and is a key part of the wider regional training team.  You will be responsible for providing training support to the operational arm by supporting training outputs at brigade, area, region, and at times national levels, for both career and volunteer staff.

This role will require you to work alongside, and support other key roles within your area of responsibility, namely Volunteer Chief Fire Officers and Controllers; Brigade Training Officers; Volunteer Support Officers and respective area management teams.  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to get involved at a national level with training at other training centres and from time-to-time at the National Training Centre in Rotorua.

As a region trainer you will have a direct and almost immediate impact on the effectiveness of Brigades.

To achieve this, you will need:

  • An excellent understanding and experience within the volunteer and/or career sectors in an emergency service organisation
  • The ability to understand how people learn
  • Proven ability to deliver effective training that is not only learner focused but tailored to meet specific learning needs when required
  • Sound planning, time management and communications skills
  • Great people skills, including relationship building skills and the ability to influence
  • You will be required to work outside normal office hours.

It would be desirable but not essential for you to be a current NZFS/Fire Emergency New Zealand Certified trainer, with a training scope and/or hold or be working towards an adult education and training qualification.

This is a valuable development opportunity to contribute your operational experience in a training role, or alternatively if you are looking to  develop your training skills and experience to round out your career experiences within Fire and Emergency New Zealand we welcome your application

This is a fixed term role  through to the end of 2019.
