Your checklist
  • Get low

Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

A closed door buys you time.

It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

People have died by going back into a fire.

Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

Information and practice days

Attending an Information and Practice Day is the first step in the recruitment process for many of our candidates. It’s not compulsory to attend but is a great, no-strings-attached way to get a taste for the role and kick-start your journey to become a Career Firefighter.

What the session covers

Not only will you hear about why this is an epic career, our team will also be there to provide you with guidance and helpful tips to put your best foot forward in the recruitment process.

We'll take you through:

  • What a firefighter does.
  • A breakdown of the recruitment process and how to prepare.
  • What the Recruit Training Course entails.
  • Tools of the trade such as fleet and equipment.
  • Opportunity to practice the Physical Pre-Entry Test(PPT).
  • A chance to pick our firefighters brains and hear firsthand why they reckon it’s the best job in the world!
