Your checklist
  • Get low

    Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

    If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

    A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

    Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

    A closed door buys you time.

    It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

    People have died by going back into a fire.

    Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

Are you Deaf or using hearing aids?

e.g. a condition that might prevent them from evacuating safely

e.g. dog on property / parking or directions / high ceilings (above 8ft/2.4m approx)

In this form we ask for your personal information including your address, contact information, and specific features/details about your home for the purpose of a Home Fire Safety Visit.

The information collected during your Home Fire Safety Visit will be used for the purpose of:

  • Making a fire risk assessment of the home.
  • Informing future Fire and Emergency fire safety and fire prevention initiatives within communities such as identifying fire risk trends in any particular suburb, district or region.
  • Reporting and measurement of our Statement of Performance Expectations.

The storage, use and disclosure of the information you provide in this form will be undertaken in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy Act 2020. Specifically, your personal information will be kept safe and secure; and your personal information will be used and shared for the purpose of the [Home Fire Safety Visit programme and/or if required/allowed by law.

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong. If you’d like to ask for a copy of your information, or to have it corrected please contact us at OfficialInformationRequests@fireandemergency.nz.
