Auckland Local Advisory Committee members appointed
24 March 2025
Fire and Emergency New Zealand has confirmed the 12 people who will form the Auckland Local Advisory Committee (LAC).
The LAC members were selected by Fire and Emergency’s Board and will provide advice that helps better support their community to reduce risk, prepare for and respond to emergencies, and recover quickly when they happen.
Te Hiku Region Manager Ron Devlin says this LAC covers the three Fire and Emergency Tāmaki Makaurau (Waitematā Auckland City, Counties Manukau) Districts and brings together people from across different communities and experiences.
“This LAC will represent our biggest city which has 1.65 million people, made up of over 200 ethnic groups, spread over a mix of densely populated, sprawling urban and rural areas, and rapidly changing spaces,” Ron Devlin says.
"All LAC members are well respected and connected within their communities. They represent a diverse range of interests and offer strong local knowledge. We look forward to working with them and the value they will bring.
"The committee will provide a new voice for these communities, helping us get our emergency planning right and strengthening local relationships, as well as providing independent advice to our Board," he says.
The committee’s first task will be to plan how to best engage and seek feedback about local needs from stakeholders in their communities, and to build a shared understanding with them about the service Fire and Emergency can and should be delivering.
"Engagement is expected to get underway later in the year so you’ll start hearing more about this committee in the coming months," Ron Devlin says.
You can read more details about the newly appointed members on Fire and Emergency’s website.
