Notice of Extension for Statement of Intent and Statement of Performance Expectations

Notice of Extension for Statement of Intent and Statement of Performance Expectations

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Fire and Emergency New Zealand has requested a one-month extension to the statutory reporting timeframes for our 2020–2024 Statement of Intent (SOI) and 2020/21 Statement of Performance Expectations (SPE). This decision followed discussions with the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) and advice from Treasury.

The COVID-19 Response (Taxation and other Regulatory Urgent Measures) Act 2020 allows regulatory deadlines to be extended for up to three months. In the interest of providing more accurate reporting, an extension until 30 July 2020 has been granted by Hon. Tracey Martin, Minister of Internal Affairs.

The conditions required for granting these extensions are:

  • the Crown entity is unable to, or will experience significant difficulties if required to, provide the information on or before 1 July 2020; or
  • the Crown entity is unable to adequately assess how its future operations will be affected and the extension will enable it to provide a better SOI and SPE than it would be able to if the extension were not granted.

The Minister is satisfied that both conditions have been met and has granted the extension. She noted that because of the effects of COVID-19, the availability of Fire and Emergency New Zealand personnel to contribute and review material for the reports was constrained. The extension also ensures the most recent information on financial forecasts and performance measures is available.

We intend to provide printed copies of the SOI and SPE by 30 July 2020 for presentation to the House of Representatives.

Once publicly available, both reports will be available here: https://fireandemergency.nz/about-us/key-documents/
