Your checklist
  • Get low

Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

A closed door buys you time.

It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

People have died by going back into a fire.

Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

Recruitment for Auckland Local Advisory Committee is closed. Appointments will be announced in March 2025

Auckland Local Advisory Committee

Fire and Emergency New Zealand works with eleven Local Advisory Committees (LACs) around the motu (country) to ensure communities’ voices and interests are reflected in our national and local planning. They provide us with independent advice on what their communities value, their needs, and the risks they face.

LACs help to shape the future of Fire and Emergency’s support for communities by enabling us to better understand what matters to communities - now and in the future. This means we can better support them to prepare for, respond to, and recover well from emergencies when they happen.

The new Auckland LAC will represent our biggest city - 1.65m people made up of over 200 ethnic groups, spread over 200 ethnic groups, spread over a mix of densely populated, sprawling urban and rural areas and rapidly changing spaces. It will cover three of Fire and Emergency’s Districts – Auckland City, Counties Manukau and Waitematā.

We look forward to announcing members of our new Auckland LAC in due course.
