Your checklist
  • Get low

Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

A closed door buys you time.

It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

People have died by going back into a fire.

Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

Employers of our volunteers are part of the crew

We’re committed to recognising the support of our self-employed volunteers and volunteers’ employers – they’re an essential part of our crew.

Do you know of a self-employed Fire and Emergency volunteer or proud employer of volunteers in your community whose cause for their community is worth promoting? If so, we’d love to hear from you. And if you run a business and would like us to share your story, we’re also keen to hear from you.

We ask that you complete the below form with a strong reason as to why your story would be of interest to New Zealanders (a paragraph or two is ample). Please also include a couple of photos, no higher than 5MB.
