Your checklist
  • Get low

Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

A closed door buys you time.

It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

People have died by going back into a fire.

Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

About evacuation schemes

Update 28 August: Fire and Emergency has released its new Evacuation Schemes system.

We’re confident you’ll find it easy to adapt to the new system, and find the many help points and in-built templates helpful in getting used to the improved features and benefits.

Here’s a reminder of a few tips to assist you in your initial experience with the application.

What you’ll notice

  • Our Online Services page looks a little different.
  • There is no change to the application process.
  • Logging in, using RealMe, is the same as you have always done.
  • That said, for your first time only, the system will ask for a few basic details to establish a login profile for you.

Note:

  • For technical reasons a small number of people may not receive a Trial Evacuation/Training Programme reminder or may receive one twice (from both the old and the new system). We have done our best to avoid both occurrences, but please be mindful of the possibility.
  • Inactive draft applications (not edited in the past 30 working days were not transferred to the new system and you need to start a fresh application.
  • All other active draft Schemes and those already submitted into the old system (whether approved yet or not), can now be found in the new system, and you can pick up where you left off.
  • For unavoidable technical reasons a small number of people may not receive a Trial Evacuation/Training Programme reminder or may receive one twice (from both the old and the new system). We ask that you are mindful of the possibility.
