Your checklist
  • Get low

    Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

    If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

    A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

    Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

    A closed door buys you time.

    It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

    People have died by going back into a fire.

    Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

Mangere Mountain vegetation fire

STAY INSIDE notice

Update at 3:30 am - The EMA has now been lifted.

The emergency mobile alert for residents within two kilometres to the southwest of Mangere Mountain is now lifted. There is still smoke in the area. If you are affected, please keep windows and doors closed and seek medical attention if you are feeling unwell due to smoke.

The fire at Mangere Mountain is now almost fully contained.

Crews will continue to work overnight and tomorrow to fully extinguish the fire.

There is a vegetation fire burning on Mangere Mountain

At 9:25 pm Fire and Emergency received multiple calls about a vegetation fire burning on Mangere Mountain near Domain Road.
The fire is currently around a hectare in size. Seven crews are working to extinguish the blaze.
People are asked to stay away from the area to allow crews to work.
People on the western side of the mountain may experience smoke. If you are affected, they should stay inside and close all windows and doors.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is partnering with NEMA and other agencies including NZ Police, Ministry for Primary Industries and Ministry of Health to use the Emergency Mobile Alerts to alert people if their lives, property or health are at serious risk.

The Emergency Mobile Alerts system operates in accordance with an agreed Support and Operational Model developed by NEMA in consultation with the participating agencies.
