Class A Foam Concentrate Drums
As a proof of concept, Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s (FENZ) Equipment and Logistics team are refilling used Class A foam drums. Class A foam is a liquid concentrate and is used as foaming and wetting additive to enhance water for firefighting operations.
The Class A foam decanting is being undertaken at FENZ Kaikohe Equipment Centre and deployed across Te Hiku (Northland and Auckland) Fire Region. It will only be found in green 20L drums.
The drums are marked as shown below:
Actions required should somebody report finding a drum displaying the label above
- Call the FENZ Communicaton Centre on 09 486 7948
- If any drum(s) are found they can be returned to the nearest fire station.
Safety
- Class A Foam, in general, is just a high-strength detergent. There are no particularly significant hazards, but it should be kept out of open waterways, and it may cause eye irritation.
- Concentrate product safety advice:
- Avoid contact with eyes & skin
- Wear goggles, gloves & protective clothing
- Wash hands thoroughly after use & handling
- Wash off painted surfaces
- Flush with water
- Clean spillage with rag/absorbent
