Your checklist
  • Get low

Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

A closed door buys you time.

It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

People have died by going back into a fire.

Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

Pigeon Valley Fire update 65 - 06:30 hours 21/02/2019

Pigeon Valley Fire - Media Advisory - 0630 Thursday 21 February 2019

Resident access – Eves, Teapot and Redwood Valley

A decision will be made this morning to determine if it is safe for the remaining evacuated residents to return to their homes.

Should conditions allow a return, access through the cordons today will be permitted only for residents and contractors or specialist professionals necessary to support the return of residents.

Our focus is on ensuring the safe return of families and providing them with support and privacy at this time. There remains a risk that further evacuations may be needed should fire conditions change.

Media access through the cordons will not be available at this stage and we ask media to continue to respect the privacy and wellbeing of individuals and families at this time.

Ends.
