Just after 2pm on 14 February 2024 Fire and Emergency New Zealand was alerted to a vegetation fire near Worsleys Road on the Christchurch Port Hills. The fire burnt approximately 650 hectares across the Port Hills over three weeks.

Waiharara Wildfire

The wildfire at Waiharara in the Far North a year ago was devastating for the local community, and hugely destructive of a nearby wetland area. The fire burned from mid-December 2021 to early February 2022, and led to Kaimaumau residents being evacuated from their homes twice.

On March 15, 2021, Fire and Emergency responded to a combine harvester fire on a farm near Ashburton. During the response to this fire, a Fire and Emergency vehicle caught fire.

Lake Ōhau Wildfire

Fanned by severe winds, the fire swept across country and through the Lake Ōhau Village, destroying 48 homes and buildings, and damaging 5043 hectares of land, making it one of New Zealand’s most significant wildfires in recent history.

Tasman Fires

The Pigeon Valley fire near Nelson started on 5 February 2019 and went on to burn over 2,300 hectares including significant areas of pine plantation over February and March 2019.

International Conference Centre

The convention centre was a large building of seven levels with a total floor area of 32,500 square metres. It was under construction at the time of the fire and was due for completion in 2020.

Port Hills Fire 2017
Operational Review
The Port Hills fires that began on February 13 2017 burnt through 1,600 hectares of land, claimed nine homes and damaged five others.
